Society for Interventional Oncology Honored with Prestigious Pierre Award for Unprecedented Fundraising Achievement

Towson, MD, November 20, 2024 – The Society of Interventional Oncology (SIO) has been honored with the esteemed 2024 Pierre Award in recognition of its efforts in fundraising achievement. Hosted by the Professionals for Association Revenue (PAR) and awarded at the annual RevUP Summit, the Pierre Award recognizes the power of associations to enact impactful change within an industry through advancements in association business.

The Society of Interventional Oncology (SIO) achieved an unprecedented fundraising achievement, raising $6 million for the first multi-industry supported international clinical trial in the interventional radiology space.

“It’s a powerful statement to bring industry competitors together,” said Jena Eberly Stack, SIO Executive Director. “The ability to bring competitors together in a way that unites the community has been a powerful message.”

SIO was founded in 2017 as a membership society comprised of interventional radiologist physicians and has since grown to 1,300 members across more than 47 countries. With a bold vision to establish interventional oncology as the "fourth pillar" of cancer treatment—alongside medical, surgical, and radiation oncology—SIO is focused on advancing the field through collaboration and innovation.

In pursuit of this goal, SIO launched the ACCLAIM Trial in January 2021. The trial, which aims to "establish microwave ablation (MWA) as the preferred treatment option for selected colorectal liver metastases that can be ablated with sufficient margins," is currently being conducted across 10 international sites and with an estimated 275 patients. With the support of three industry partners, the ACCLAIM Trial is running six months ahead of schedule, demonstrating the strength of collaboration and project management within the interventional oncology community. Stack said the project laid the groundwork to learn the process of executing on projects that are aimed at changing the standard of care by partnering with society leaders and multiple industry partners.

“Ultimately the success of this has set a standard going forward for other projects that the Society is working on,” said Stack.

SIO joins the Infectious Disease Society of America (2022) and the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (2023) as the recipient of the prestigious annual award.

“We are proud to congratulate SIO on receiving the Pierre Award,” said Sean Soth, Founder and Chairman, PAR, and SVP, Strategy & Global Partnerships, SCRS. “This achievement shows the power of associations to drive meaningful change and advance their industries through innovative fundraising and collaboration. The $6 million raised for the ACCLAIM Trial exemplifies how uniting industry competitors can lead to groundbreaking advancements in patient care, setting a new standard for interventional oncology."

Three finalist organizations shared their stories of success with the PAR community during the RevUP Summit (November 19-21) in Annapolis, MD.

The two other organizations honored as 2024 Pierre Award Finalists include:

Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology  (APIC)

Over a 14-month period, APIC launched three new certification preparation programs to better serve industry professionals, APIC’s instructor network, and enterprise and government partners. These programs, created in partnership with Holmes Corporation, provide accessible, quality training to advance the practice of infection prevention & control and generate revenue for future projects.

One of APIC’s three strategic priorities is to foster the development of the next generation of infection prevention and control (IPC) workforce. These programs make training and certification accessible to all, ensuring that IPC professionals at all levels have the training and knowledge they need to tackle the IPC challenges they face each day.

As a result of the launch of these three programs, APIC achieved and surpassed multiple revenue goals while recouping the initial investment in 13 months. The revenue generated from these programs goes back to support APIC products and services.

American Society of Association Executives (ASAE)

ASAE’s Demo Days program exemplifies its mission to create new opportunities that help its members to succeed. This virtual event features presentations from industry partners and allows members to research and identify the technologies and tools that will help their organization to be more successful.

At a time when industry partners had fewer ways to reach their target audience to generate leads for new customers, ASAE Demo Days created a new way to connect solution providers with the organizations that needed their services. Because the members who attend demo days are ready to buy, when they indicate interest to a participating industry partner, the sales cycle is often shorter, making these prospects more valuable to industry partners.

Demo Days, created in partnership with Matchbox, has grown to become one of ASAE's most successful non-dues revenue initiatives. Hundreds of attendees register to attend and actively participate in the monthly Demo Day events, while industry partners feel more supported and connected to ASAE.

The Pierre Award honors Christine Pierre’s legacy of association mission and business alignment, during a career that included roles as association board presidency, volunteer, speaker, exhibitor and entrepreneur. Finalists were selected for their commitment to partnership, vision and innovation within their respective industry.
